For the first time in Iran, an environmental consultant was employed concurrently with the geometric design studies to evaluate the proposed route variants and recommend the optimal variant with the least environmental impact. This approach ensures that the project proceeds with a thorough understanding of its potential environmental effects and aims to minimize harm to this ecologically rich area.
Reducing the length of the open route and increasing the number and length of tunnels with mechanized excavation. Significant reduction in soil and vegetation disruption with the construction of tunnels (this helps preserve soil fertility, natural drainage, and biodiversity in the area). Reduction of air and noise pollution: Mechanized tunnel excavation instead of traditional methods significantly reduces noise pollution and dust generated by operations. Tunnels make transit safer in adverse weather conditions and against potential hazards such as landslides or rockfalls. Reducing the length of access roads and land acquisition means less land is needed, preserving more natural and agricultural lands. Additionally, constructing a shorter route means lower construction and maintenance costs. Limiting the deposition sites for excess materials makes their management and organization easier, preventing the unauthorized spread and accumulation of materials in nature. Concentrating deposition sites also allows for more effective control measures to prevent soil, water, and air pollution.
The preparation of a landfill site restoration plan is also underway in protected areas and pristine ecosystems. With a clear plan for landfill site restoration, upon completion of the operations, it can be transformed into a useful space compatible with the environment. This may include creating green spaces, establishing roadside service and welfare complexes, or reusing the land for other purposes. Furthermore, implementing the restoration plan helps prevent long-term soil and groundwater pollution. Overall, these actions demonstrate a commitment to reducing the environmental impacts of the project. Continuing these efforts and implementing innovative methods can minimize negative effects on the environment and achieve sustainable development.
